What do you do when they betray you?

The work we’re here to do boils down to one thing: making different choices.
And there’s no better way to show the impact those choices can have than to hear from the people who’ve made them… and changed for the better.

Some months ago, my friend and fellow journalist Julie Rose asked if I would consider hosting a new podcast series about four regular people who bridged divides in bold ways:
David, a member of a faith community who wanted to help a killer’s family
Hélène, a journalist who became painfully aware of her blind spots
Laryssa, a Latina immigrant who spoke up when she never thought she could
…And Julie Spilsbury, a former elected official who connected powerfully with the man — one of her constituents in Mesa, Arizona — who ruined her political career.
I of course jumped at the chance to host, and the new series — Dispatches From the Divide — is now available on your favorite podcast platform. Today, it’s even on A Braver Way itself.
In our new special episode, I’m bringing you Julie Spilsbury’s story, as told by the talented production team at BYU Radio, followed by a 15-minute chat between me and the incomparable April Lawson where we extract four strategies for handling political ruptures this election season.
A giant thanks to David, Hélène, Laryssa, and Julie Spilsbury for offering their stories, and to Julie Rose for inviting me to be part of sharing them.
Stay curious,
